Philosophy of Treatment

Turning Point Youth Center offers highly structured residential treatment designed to assist males who require psychiatric treatment in a secure setting. Our facility's treatment professionals include a child & adolescent psychiatrist, clinical director, therapists, nursing staff, group leaders, and education professionals. Utilizing Rational Behavior Training, Turning Point's developed system of treatment fully provides each resident with a secure and safe therapeutic environment.

Treatment Services

All residents admitted to Turning Point Youth Center receive a psychiatric evaluation and an individualized treatment plan, which is based upon specific psychiatric diagnoses, needs/strengths, and family support. Based upon their treatment plan, each resident has the opportunity to benefit from the following treatment components:

• Cognitive restructuring utilizing Rational Behavior Training
• Anger Management Therapy
• Behavioral observations and psychiatric medication monitoring if needed
• Individual Therapy
• Family Counseling
• Elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy
• Continual crisis intervention and suicide prevention monitoring
• Substance Abuse Counseling
• Sex Offender Treatment
• Pet Therapy
• Religious and spiritual enrichment services (optional)
• Employability and independent living skills upgrading
• Recreation Therapy Sessions Available

To ensure the success of our residents, all applicable therapeutic services are delivered until the resident achieves 100% of their treatment objectives. Additionally, individual treatment goals are reviewed and updated monthly by Turning Point’s multi-disciplinary Treatment Team. Recognizing the importance of family involvement in treatment services, Turning Point provides, at no cost, transportation assistance for family therapy sessions, if needed.

Behavior Management Philosophy

Turning Point Youth Center is determined to maintain a safe and secure environment for its residents and staff. Residents receive treatment designed to change their thinking and behaviors by providing them with the skills necessary to make constructive changes in their lives. Based upon individual circumstances, inappropriate behaviors are often handled utilizing the following techniques: Time Out, Extended Time Out, Verbal De-Escalation, Non-Contact Directive, Escorts, and Restraints.

Following the exhibition of extreme inappropriate behavior, residents process their behaviors and the results of their actions one-on-one with staff members. During this processing, residents recognize the irrational thought patterns that led to their actions, in addition to identifying how to exhibit more appropriate behaviors in the future. In an effort to promote appropriate and suitable behaviors, positive reinforcement is delivered through a system comprised of both immediate and delayed rewards.

Case Management Services

Turning Point recognizes communication as being essential in a collaborative relationship between ourselves and any referring agency. Our Director of Community Relations, Clinical Director, Therapists, Case Managers, and Group Leaders are readily available to discuss a resident’s treatment and ongoing progress.

To further relay resident treatment progress, an Initial Treatment Plan (ITP) is composed for each resident and forwarded to their respective Case Worker(s) within thirty (30) days of admission to Turning Point. Each ninety (90) days thereafter, an Updated Treatment Plan (UTP) is developed and delivered to the applicable Case Worker(s). Additionally, we provide timely Court Reports and Release Plans, as well as weekly and monthly progress updates, if needed.
